Restarting romance

"You don't love me anymore!"

"I want romance."

"What happened to the person I fell in love with?"

"We never do anything anymore!"

These words are painful from both sides! These are the words that signify a possible end to the relationship. These are the words that tell you of your failure to show your feelings to the one you love. How can you possibly romance someone or show them that you love them with all the other things you have to do? There are the kids to think about, the project at work, or the overtime to pay off some of the back bills.

These words are a red flag. Do you want to stay in the relationship and do what it takes or do you want to return to the single life?

This article assumes that you want to stay in the relationship. If this is your decision, continue to read. If you have decided to return to the single life, you may want to begin looking for a place of your own.

Men like to be romanced too! They do not like exactly the same romance as men, but they do like some things!

WARNING: DO NOT DO ALL OF THESE THINGS AT ONCE OR YOU WILL BE HEADING FOR DIVORCE!!!! If your mate has not had these experiences in a while and you suddenly begin doing them, they will be convinced you have done something wrong!

Here is a starter list:

  • Leave a note attached to the bathroom mirror. Say something like: Here is a picture of the most beautiful/gorgeous woman/man in the world.
  • VOLUNTEER to help with the dishes.
  • Volunteer to take her to try on dresses, shoes, or whatever. Tell her when she looks great, beautiful, or not so great. Use words other than ok, fine, good and pretty.
  • Compliment them on how they look to you, find new words to describe them such as: stellar, gorgeous, wonderful, beautiful, handsome, sexy, heavenly, sweet, delicious, charming, whatever fits and is nice.
  • Tell them "Thank you" when they do something for you like cook dinner, wash your clothes, wash the dishes, makes the bed, takes the kids to their appointments.
  • Tell them "Thank you" for being with you.
  • Text them. Say something like: I know your busy, but I was thinking of you and wanted to let you know that. No need to reply.
  • Call them and say: I love you. That is all I wanted to say. Do you have something you would like to talk about?

Another thing you might look into is writing love letters for your mate to find or receive in the mail. If you want a love letter for a man, you should probably write something steamy. If you want a love letter for a woman, you probably want something more subtle. However, each person is an individual and the best part of romance is that you get to discover fun and interesting things about yourself and your mate!

Sometimes, the best romantic thing you can do is learn something new together: photography, dancing, painting, hiking, or horseback riding are a few suggestions. Remember that the most important thing about romance is enjoying the time you spend with your mate. If your focus is not on your mate, it's not romance!

I agree with you, romance requires constant work to keep it alive and your suggestions are so sweet! Anyway, if you really love someone, it wouldn't really be 'work'. =)

True, but when you are starting again it is work no matter how much you love the person your with. The great thing is that most people are grateful for the effort more than the accomplishment.

Yes men like romance too!! But sum of my best time spent with the one I love is when she lays on my shoulder.

Sometimes I like to which her sleep. Or just see that beautiful face and the way she smiles.

You found the core of romance right there, DDD!!! It is about focusing on the other person, not the activity itself. She is a lucky girl! That's for sure!!! giggle
